Eggert's Late Goal Gives Rangers 13th Win
Box Score
WAYNE, N.J. (October 26, 2010) - Senior
Kati Eggert (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) netted the game-winning goal with 4:15 remaining in their final non-conference match of the fall.
After William Paterson (4-12) tied the game late in the second half, the Landmark Conference's leading scorer ripped a hard shot from the left wing to put the Rangers ahead for good. Drew (13-4) has already qualified for the Conference playoffs and now has registered its highest win total since the 2004 season.
The Rangers played from behind early when the Pioneers struck first with a goal 5:02 into the game. The combination of classmates
Meghan Howlett (Garwood, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) and
Mary Esposito (Woolrich, N.J./Kingsway Regional) helped Drew knot the score in the 28th minute. Esposito got her third assist of the year when she got the ball in close to Howlett who found the back of the cage.
The Rangers would grab their first lead of the game 7:14 into the second half when Eggert setup a
Hannah Rau (Hallowell, Maine/Hall-Dale) blast from the left wing. The goal was the third of the season for Rau, which is a new career high for the midfielder.
Drew outshot William Paterson in both halves and held a 19-7 advantage in the game.
Christiana Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) started the game in net and tallied three saves.
Lauren Fasano (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) came in to close the game out and earned her sixth win of the season.
The Rangers have fared well against New Jersey schools this fall and improve to 4-1 against Garden State schools in 2010. Tonight's victory is the first against William Paterson since 2007 and the third-straight against an NJAC school.
Three Landmark teams will all be vying for second place and home field advantage on Saturday afternoon. For Drew to get the second seed, they will need to defeat Susquehanna and have a higher goal differential against Landmark teams than Catholic and Susquehanna.
