Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (November 10, 2010) - Junior
Mary Esposito (Woolwich Twp., N.J./Kingsway Regional) capped off a come-from-behind ECAC Quarterfinal victory tonight in a 3-2 win over Alvernia. The Rangers will move on to play Wesley College on Saturday in Washington, D.C.
Drew (14-6) got on the board early with a goal from All-Conference performer
Sarah Charles (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) who got pass from the center of the circle by
Melissa Kistle (Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) to make the score 1-0 just 3:35 into the game.
Alvernia (10-9) would respond with the next two goals, temporarily giving them the lead seven minutes into the second half of play. The Crusdaders knotted the game with a little over five minutes to play in the first half when Katy Eaby picked up a rebound in front of the net. Alvernia's final goal of the day came on a shot the popped over goalkeeper Christiana Carlini's head early in the second half.
With the momentum, swinging in Alvernia's favor Drew was able to draw four penalty goals after falling behind 2-1. The Rangers finally cashed in on their fourth corner of the half when Kistle found
Hannah Rau (Hallowell, Maine/Hall-Dale) who blasted a ball into the back of the cage.
The Crusaders took a timeout after the goal but they could not seem to get the ball into the Ranger zone, getting only one shot in the final nine minutes of play.
Meanwhile the Rangers offense kept pressing and finally got a break in the midfield when the Landmark Conference Offensive Player of the Year,
Kati Eggert (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls), took a few dribbles and found a streaking Esposito. The junior forward was able to split two defenders and beat the goalkeeper for her sixth goal of the fall.
The Rangers will travel down to familiar territory, the campus of Catholic University, to take on Wesley College at either 5:30 or 8:00.
