Del Vecchio Leads Rangers over Goucher, 57-39

Senior Jessica Del Vecchio scored 17 points as the Drew Rangers picked up their second Landmark Conference victory in two days and defeated the Goucher College Gophers, 57-39.  The Rangers improved their record to 12-10, 4-9 in the Landmark Conference while the Gophers fell to 6-16, 2-10 in conference play.

Del Vecchio led the Rangers in a slow moving first half with eight points.  Victoria Ault, Jessica Reid, and Danielle Barber all found rookie forward, Eden Blazovic, under the net.  Blazovic scored the first six for Drew.

The Rangers went up by 10 , 16-6, with 12:40 remaining in the half after back-to-back three pointers by Del Vecchio and freshman Brenda Kramer.  Kramer, who led the Rangers in last night's win over Catholic, finished with six.

The Gophers started to close the gap with 8:53 remaining.  They got as close as 17-14 with an Allie Russo lay-up at 6:30.  That was as close as the Gophers would get to the Rangers for the remaining of the half.  Dana Cornato drilled a three just before the three minute mark to give Drew a 26-18 advantage but Elizabeth von Ende responded with a jumper for the Gophers.  The Rangers took a 26-22 lead into half-time after Amber Smith closed the half for the Gophers with a lay-up off of a Kiara Doughty assist.

The Rangers did not waste any time in the second half as they jumped out to 10-point lead after within the first 6:30.  After a very quiet first half,  the sophomore, Barber drained a three to put the Rangers up 38-28.  The Gophers responded with a lay-in from Doughty but the game belonged to the Rangers from that point on.

Kramer put the Rangers up by 12 with an athletic lay-in and was fouled on the play.  She hit her free-throw to give Drew a 13-point advantage.  Del Vecchio wasn't done yet either, she hit a three of her own with 8:51 remaining.  Just two minutes later Del Vecchio drove to the basket and put up a lay-in amidst traffic and drew the foul from Doughty.

The Gophers could not get anything going for the rest of the game.  Ranger defense held Gopher leading scorer, Amber Smith, to just eight points, and did not allow her a basket the entire second half.  Doughty led the Gophers with 11 followed by von Ende who had 10.

Del Vecchio's 17 led the Rangers, while Blazovic followed with 9.  The Landmark Conference leader in assists, Barber, dished out five for the Rangers.

The Gophers take on conference foe, Moravian, Tuesday Feb. 16th in a make-up game, at Towson, Md. at 5:30pm.  Drew travels to Arcadia Thursday night, Feb 18th. at 6:00pm to take on the Knights in their final road trip of the regular season.
