Barber Earns First Team Nod

Drew University point guard Danielle Barber has been named to the Women's Basketball All-Landmark Conference First Team. Barber helped the Rangers to a 14-11 record this year and their first post-season appearance since the 04-05 season.  Barber is the Ranger's work horse, she started every game this season and played more minutes (829) than any other player in the conference.  Barber finished the regular season 5th in the conference in scoring with 321 points.  She led the conference in assists with 141 and finished 7th in the Country in the same statistic after averaging 5.6 per game.

Barber led the Ranger's offense in points, assists, steals (62,) field goals made (117,) and free throws made (64.)

Barber, a Middle Twp. grad, is one of three sophomores to earn all-conference honors, and is the only second year on the first team.  She earned conference player of the week honors twice earlier this season (December 14th, 2009, and January 18th, 2010) and was named to the d3hoops.com team of the week November 28th, 2009.

Barber and the Rangers take on the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins Wednesday, March 3rd, at 7:00pm for the preliminary round of the ECAC Tournament in Baldwin Gym.

LANDMARK SELECTS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

MADISON, N.J. – Following a strong season of competition that sees four Landmark teams earn berths in the NCAA or ECAC postseason 12 student-athletes have been selected to the 2009-10 All-Landmark Conference Women's Basketball Team as voted by the conference's eight head coaches. The team consists of a first and second team, with six players on each team, and the selections made by position.  The voting for the All-Conference Team took place after the conclusion of the regular season and prior to the start of the Landmark postseason.

Moravian College, which posted the first unbeaten Landmark season in conference basketball history led the way with three All-Conference choices, each of them on the first team. The Greyhounds coaching staff, led by Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk were also recognized as the Coaching Staff of the Year. The University of Scranton also had two honorees, and all eight Landmark programs had at least one player chosen for the team. Scranton's Megan Kopecki earned Player of the Year honors for the second time in as many seasons. Brooke Picillo of the United States Merchant Marine Academy also received an honor for the second time as she was named the Defensive Player of the Year after earning that honor in the 2007-08 season. Catholic's Jill Woerner was selected as the Landmark Rookie of the Year.

The All-Conference choices were separated among the classes, with five seniors being honored in their final season, along with four juniors and three sophomores. There were several repeat honorees including four players who have earned spots on all three Landmark All-Conference Teams. Kopecki, Catholic's Brianna Peterson, Moravian's Kate Harrison and Susquehanna's Rachael Hughes are all three-time All-Landmark choices. Juniata's Jen Hnatuck, Goucher's Amber Smith and Scranton's Ryan Mooney are both two-time All-Landmark honorees.
