Late Surge Helps Montclair Pull Away from Rangers

Madison, N.J. (March 31, 2010) – The Red Hawks used four fourth-quarter goals to hand the Rangers their third consecutive non-conference loss of the 2010 season. Senior Greg Reading (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley) scored two goals and added an assist in the loss.

Ryan Kloss wasted no time getting the Montclair (5-2) on the board as he scored the first two goals, his first only: 24 into the game.  Saturday's game hero, Sam Nepveux (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), received a pass from Reading for the  first Drew (5-4) goal making the score 2-1. Montclair would add two more goals before the half, both by attack man Taylor Bonner.

The Rangers picked up their scoring and climbed back into the game in the third period. Drew trailed 5-2 with fewer than five minutes to play and put together three straight goals to even the score before the end of the frame. Scott Humphreys (Wilmington, Del/Sanford School) put home his ninth goal of the year to make the score 5-3 and Jon Bucknam (Flemington, N.J/Hunterdon Central) scored :43 seconds later to pull Drew within one. Reading would score his second goal of the contest and knot the game at five just before the end of the period.

Montclair shifted the momentum right back in the final quarter and rattled off three straight goals opening up another three-goal advantage. Ari Young (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) would get the lone fourth quarter for the Rangers as Drew would wind up getting out scored 4-1 in the fourth period.

Second half net minder Charles DeSocio (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) made 12 key saves and allowed Drew to get back into the game in the third quarter.

Drew will travel to Bethlehem on Wednesday to take on Landmark Conference opponent, Moravian at 4:00.
