Rangers Improve to 2-0 in Landmark
HUNTINGDON, Pa. (April 10, 2010) – Drew has yet to lose a singles or doubles match this year against conference opponents as they shut out Juniata 9-0 this afternoon. With the win the Rangers improve to 5-6 on the year and remain unbeaten in Landmark Conference play.
The reigning Landmark Conference Player of the Week,
Elliot Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey), cruised in number three singles, 6-1, 6-0, and squeaked out a tie-breaker win 9-8 (7-5) in doubles. Smego improves to 5-4 on the year in both singles and doubles play.
The shutout did not come easily as the final two singles matches went to three sets.
Victor Kolarov (Sofia, Bulgaria/FPELS William Shakespeare) dropped the first set in a tiebreaker but came back to win the final two sets , 6-4 and 10-6, to close out Juniata's Ross Imbrie and preserve the shutout for the Rangers.
The Rangers will travel to the National Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y. to take on Hunter College on Wednesday at 4:30
