Men's Tennis Continues to Roll
MADISON, N.J. (April 18, 2010) – The Rangers improve to 4-0 in the Landmark Conference as they defeated Catholic, 8-1 this afternoon. The Rangers took all three doubles matches to start off the day and lost only one singles match in a tiebreaker to hand the Cardinals their second conference loss of the spring.
Matt Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) won his third-straight match in number two singles 6-0, 6-0 and teamed up with
Alex Belflore (Knowles, England/TASIS) to capture a 8-3 doubles win. The doubles win would mark the third straight win for the duo and they improve to 6-3 on the year.
The doubles tandem of
Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Christo Rey) and
Elliott Smego (Ponce Puerto Rico/Academia Christo Rey) won their fifth-straight number one doubles match as they took down Daniel Velverde and Michael Schinella, 8-4. Velverde would get his revenge as he took Raul to three sets in number one singles and eventually won in a tiebreaker, 11-9.
The Rangers will return to action when they travel to Selingsgrove, Pa. to take on the Crusaders next Saturday at 1:00.
