Big First Half Propels Rangers

Big First Half Propels Rangers

MADISON, N.J. (September 14, 2010) - Four first half goals were all the Rangers needed to take care of Muhlenberg (0-4) tonight at Ranger Stadium. Kati Eggert (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) brought up her season goal total up to eight with two goals on the evening and also added her first assist.

Drew (3-1) got to work early when Freshman Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) broke the scoreless tie just 1:21 into the game. The goal was setup beautifully off the penalty corner. The ball was served in by Eggert, stopped by Melissa Kistle (Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) and then driven home by Gagliano.

Controlling the pace of the game for most of the first half of play, The Rangers got off 13 shots compared to Muhlenberg's one. Eggert would get her third point of the night 10 minutes into the game when she received a perfectly placed pass from classmate Stacie Brown (Upper Marlboro, Md./The Calverton School) to make the score, 2-0. Eggert would come back 1:53 later to net her second goal of the contest off a pass from Meghan Howlett (Garwood, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson).

Howlett got in on the scoring action with a little over the five minutes remaining in the half when she ripped a shot from the right side into the left corner of the cage. The goal and the assist earlier in the first were Howlett's first two points of the young season after having a team-high 13 in 2009.

The Ranger defense was once again superb as they collected their second-straight shutout and third of the the season. Freshman Christiana Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) played the first half and was credited with the her first career win. Lauren Fasano (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) came in and preserved the shutout by making a season-high six saves including a few acrobatic efforts late in the game.

Drew will return to action Friday when they take on Vassar College at 5:00 in Ranger Stadium.
