Rangers Edge Past Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. (September, 19, 2010) - The sole goal in the first half proved to be enough to help Rangers defeat the Violets, 1-0 in Swarthmore this afternoon. With the victory Drew extended its winning streak to four games.
Drew (5-1) struck quickly as freshman Jess Johnson (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Senior) found the back of the cage in the twelfth minute. Mary Esposito (Woolrich, N.J./Kingsway Regional) dished up a perfect ball, that Johnson sliced past the goaltender. The goal was Johnson's first goal of the season and the first of her career.
With the Rangers on the board right away Swarthmore came out swinging, out shooting the Rangers 13 - 10 in the contest. Solid defense helped drew hold on for their third consecutive shutout. Christiana Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) made career-high 10 saves in the contest and registered her third win of the week.
Drew's Field Hockey returns to action Wednesday, September 22 when they travel to SUNY- New Paltz. The match is set to start at 4:30 p.m.
