Malone's Goal Gets Rangers by Valiants

PURCHASE, N.Y. (September 22, 2010) - Drew women's soccer picked up a win this afternoon in their final game before the beginning of conference play, 1-0 over Manhattanville.
Michelle Malone (Rochelle Park, N.J/Paramus Catholic) netted the first-half game-winner to improve the Rangers to 4-3 on the year.
Malone got the Rangers off to an early lead when she picked up a rebound off a shot from
Liz Loiodice (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) and drove it to the back of the net at the 15:07 mark. The goal would be all the Rangers needed in the defensive affair.
Manhattanville (0-8) would win the unleash a total of 18 shots with 12 of them coming in the second half. The Drew defense held strong and only allowed nine to get on net.
Kim Jaikisson (Columbia, N.J./Columbia) tied a career-high with seven saves. Junior
Dana De Barros (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) came in with a little over 20 minutes remaining to relieve Jaikisson and made three saves to preserve the shutout.
Manhattanville was shutout for the fifth time this season, this time by Drew's two goalkeepers
who notched the the third shutout of 2010. The Rangers avenged a 3-0 loss to the Valiants in in Purchase from a season ago. Prior to last year, Drew's last win against Manhattanville came in the 2008 season when
Sara Storer (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) assisted
Megan Fogarty in the second overtime help the Rangers come away with the 1-0 victory.
The Rangers will open up Landmark Conference play this weekend against the Greyhounds of Moravian College. The game will be the first of a soccer doubleheader beginning at 1:00.
