MONTCLAIR, N.J. (October 19, 2011)- Montclair State (15-1), ranked eighth in the latest Kookaburra / NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll, handed the Rangers their seventh loss of the year with a 5-1 victory earlier this evening. The Red Hawks avenged a 2-1 OT loss from last season and dropped the Rangers to 9-7 on the year.
The Red Hawks led from wire to wire, scoring on their fourth shot of the night by Michelle Hagel who tallied her ninth goal of the fall. Montclair State held the 1-0 advantage all the way up until the final minute of the first half. Goals by Kate Norgard and then Brittany Carroll as time expired to give the Red Hawks a 3-0 lead at the break.
Montclair State began the second half scoring just the way it ended the with Carroll's second goal of the night off a pass from Emily Burd. The Red Hawks added their final goal of the night after being awarded a penalty stroke in which Jennifer Tafro converted for her seventh score of the season.
The Rangers got on the scoreboard in the 63
rd minute when
Angela Terracciano (Keansburg, N.J./Raritan) scored her team-leading 10
th goal of the year.
Christiana Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) played all 70 minutes in front of the cage and made eight saves in the loss.
The Rangers will return to Landmark Conference play this Saturday when they host Juniata at 1:00 p.m. in Ranger Stadium.
