MADISON, N.J. (October 22, 2011) – Drew improved to 4-1 in Landmark Conference play with a 2-0 victory over defending conference champion, Juniata (9-4, 3-2 Landmark). With the win the Rangers qualified for their third-straight Landmark postseason under Head Coach
Felicia Cappabianca.
Drew (10-7, 4-1 Landmark) opened up the scoring in the 16
th minute after being awarded one of their five corners of the half. Senior
Mary Esposito (Woolwich, Twp. N.J./Kingsway Regional) scored on the only Ranger shot of the half off a pass from freshman
Erin Maguire (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingswood Regional).
The Ranger defense and goalkeeper
Christiana Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) held strong for the remainder of the game after being tested by the Landmark's second best offense on a number of occasions. Carlini made 10 saves including eight in the second half of play to record her fifth career shutout.
The final Ranger goal came with 3:54 remaining in the game when
Angela Terracciano (Keansburg, N.H./Raritan) punched in a
Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) pass to seal the Rangers first victory over Juniata since the 2008 regular season.
The Eagles now have dropped their last two conference games after losing to first place Catholic, 4-1 on Sunday.
The Rangers will be under the lights at Ranger Stadium on Tuesday when they square off against Richard Stockton in a non-conference matchup. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
