Rangers Win Eighth in a Row, Sweep Juniata

Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (February 4, 2011) - In another tightly contested Landmark Conference game, the Rangers were able to close out the Eagles this evening with a 73-64 win. The victory marks the eighth-straight win, the second longest winning streak in school history.

The second place Rangers were looking to go ahead early and opened up a quick eight-point lead courtesy of the long ball. Dara McKeon (Dunboynne, Ireland/St. Peter's College) and #Asmar Capers# (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) drilled three's on ensuing possessions. Mike Mayes (Linden, N.J./St. Mary's) would then get the Rangers lead to a game-high eight points.

Juniata (10-11, 3-7 Landmark) would come roaring back with an 7-0 run of their own to get the game within one. The back-and-forth first half would end with a 31-31 tie.

The second half would belong to Mayes, as he notched 18 of his game-high 20 points in the final 20 minutes. The senior went on a 9-0 run of his own to begin the half. Mayes hit three short jumpers in a row extending the Drew (12-9, 7-3 Landmark) lead to four.

The Rangers would hold the lead for the entire second half but the Eagles would not go away. With under five minutes to play and the Rangers up four, Mayes would strike again. He helped re-capture the momentum with a three as the shot clock expired with 1:34 remaining. The deep ball gave Drew their largest lead of the half at seven.

Capers helped seal the game scoring the final six points, going 4-for-4 from the line and registering a layup with five seconds to go. Capers, the conference's leading scorer, tallied 19 points and pulled down five rebounds.

Mayes' 20 points was his season-high and he came up with three steals in the win. Terrell Brown (Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson) had another solid all-around game. He finished with six points, eight rebounds and a career-high six steals.

The Rangers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when Susquehanna comes to Madison for a 4:00 PM clash. The Rangers will honor their three seniors, Mayes, Kyle Joyce and Nick Ganzfried before the game.
