Red-hot Rangers Extend Winning Streak to Nine
Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (February 5, 2011) - The Rangers continued their winning ways this afternoon and completed the season sweep of Susquehanna with a 84-79 win in Baldwin Gym. Senior
Kyle Joyce (Hanover, Mass/Xavieran Brothers) had the hot hand for Drew and scored a team-high 17 points.
Drew (13-9, 8-3 Landmark) is currently the hottest team in the Landmark Conference and tied a 72-year-old school record for consecutive wins. The Rangers sit alone in second place in the Landmark, trailing the conference-leading Scranton Royals by one game.
Susquehanna (9-13, 5-6 Landmark) only held one lead the entire game and it came early in the first half. Drew built a nine-point advantage with 2:00 minutes to play but had it cut down to three at the sound of the halftime horn. Joyce was the team's leading scorer going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc for nine points in the first 20 minutes of play.
Drew found themselves in an unfamiliar position late in the game and owned a double digit lead with 10 minutes remaining. The Rangers, who have been so good this season late in the games, went on an 8-2 run with under five minutes to play to capture an 11-point lead, the largest of the afternoon.
The Crusaders would not go down quietly, and came within five with under a minute remaining. Drew, who came into the game shooting just 67 percent from the free throw line as a team, would knock them down when it counted. Senior
Nick Ganzfried (Columbus, Ohio/Wellington) capped the Rangers win with the final freebees of the game and the final two of his regular season career in Baldwin Gym.
Four Rangers were in double figures including,
Asmar Capers (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) who notched 17 points with eight of those points coming from the charity strip.
Terrell Brown (Camden, N.J/Woodrow Wilson) had another solid all-around game, tallying 12 points and dishing off seven assists in the win.
The Rangers will be on the road for the remainder of the season beginning on Friday when they travel to Catholic. Tip-off will be around 7:30 following the women's game at the DuFour Center.
