Rangers Headed to Eleventh-Straight Championship

Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (April 26, 2011) – For the second time in four days the Rangers were able to defeat Moravian, 5-1 this time with a Landmark Conference Championship berth on the line. Men's tennis will make an appearance in their eleventh-straight conference championship and fourth-straight Landmark.

Unlike Saturday's match, Moravian (11-6) was able to squeak out a win in doubles and trailed 2-1 going into singles play. Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) and his brother Elliot Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) won their second in a row over the duo of Doug Morrow and Nick Yelito, 8-2.

Alex Belfiore (Virginia Water, England/TASIS) and Matt Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) remained unblemished in the Landmark winning easily at number two doubles, 8-2.

Needing only three points for a trip to the championship, Raul Smego, Brisotti, and Adam Gerber (Montclair, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) registered straight-set wins in singles play. Including playoffs, the Rangers have won 94-straight games over conference opponents dating back to 2001.

The Rangers will be looking for their 11th straight title on Saturday in a rematch of last year's finale against Scranton. Drew defeated the Royals, 6-3 earlier in the season. A time has yet to be announced for the title match.
