Rangers Cruise Past Cardinals, Extend Streak

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 9, 2010) - In a rematch of the 2010 Landmark Conference Semifinals, the Rangers defeated Catholic 8-1 on the road this afternoon. The Rangers extend their winning streak to consecutive wins against conference opponents to 89.
Drew (6-6, 3-0 Landmark) got out to a quick, 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles.
Elliot Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) and
Raul Smego (Ponce Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) won their fourth match of the year together, 8-1, at number one doubles. The duo of
Alex Belfiore (Virginia Water, England/TASIS) and
Matt Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) won their conference-leading seventh doubles match, 8-1 at the two slot.
In singles play
Raul Smego, Belfiore and Brisotti took home straight-set victories to clinch the third Landmark win of the season.
Adam Gerber (Montclair, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) came frome behind to pick up his sixth win of the season. After losing the first set, 7-5 to Catholic's Brian Bradley, Gerber came back to win the second set 6-4 and the tie-breaking set 10-7.
The Rangers will return home on Wednesday to face-off against Hunter College before wrapping up their Landmark schedule over the weekend.
