Weida Scores Three, Rangers Roll
MADISON, N.J. (September 20, 2011) – Women's soccer won their second-straight game this evening with a 6-0 win over Manhattanville (0-8) at Ranger Stadium. Senior Emily Weida (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) netted her first career hat trick to improve the Rangers to 2-5 on the year.
The Ranger offense was jump started early by last week's Landmark Conference Player of the Week, Katie O'Keefe (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) who found an open Christine Meconi (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) for the game's first score. Less than a minute later, Caroline Kuras (Allamuchy, N.J./Pope John XXIII) notched her second goal of the season just 3:23 into the game.
Weida registered the next three goals to help the Rangers build a 5-0 lead going into halftime. The three goal performance was the first since her classmate Meconi scored three against Juniata back in 2009. Courtney Carnevale (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro-North) and Meconi aided the senior on the team's final two goals of the game.
Junior Jeramie Barletta (Madison, N.J./Madison) recorded her first career shutout and made four saves to pick up her second-consecutive victory.
The Rangers will open Landmark Conference play this weekend when they host Susquehanna on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
