Fifth Shutout Leads Rangers Past Monarchs

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (October 10, 2012) – The Drew field hockey team captured their 10th win of the season after a 2-0 victory over King's College (8-6) this afternoon at Ranger Stadium. The shutout was the season's fifth for goalkeeper CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin).

After a nearly scoreless first half, the Rangers notched the game's first goal with 22 seconds remaining in the frame. Junior Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) fired a pass into the middle of the circle which Sarah Charles (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris) redirected into the back of the cage to put the Rangers on top, 1-0.

Charles returned the favor early in the second half when she found Gagliano for her 10th goal of the season. Charles now has a conference-high 30 points on the year and leads the league with 13 goals.

The Drew defense put forth a stout effort in the first half not allowing a shot on goal. Carlini finished the day with four saves, all coming in the second half.

Since taking over the program in 2007, Head Coach Felicia Cappabianca has led the Rangers to 10 wins or more in all but one season. She has totaled 69 career wins which ranks second in school history.

The Rangers will resume conference play this Saturday when they welcome in the University of Scranton. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. in Ranger Stadium.
