#4 Montclair St. Snaps Rangers Seven-game Win Streak

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (October 16, 2012) – Montclair State (13-1), the number four team in the country according to today's Penn Monto / NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll, narrowly escaped with a 2-1 victory over the Drew field hockey team (11-3) this evening at Ranger Stadium.

The Red Hawks wasted little time capturing their first lead of the contest as Kate Nogard found the back of the cage just 4:08 into the game.  Nogard found herself open in the middle of the circle and connected on her 10th goal of the season to put the Red Hawks up 1-0.

The Rangers waited until the end of the first half to respond, tying the game up with just five seconds left on the clock. Junior Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton) took a rebound and slid it across the circle to sophomore Melissa Boyd (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) who was waiting on the far post for the score. The Rangers took an 8-7 advantage in shots into the half and each team attempted five corners in the first 35 minutes.

In the 45th minute Montclair went up for good on Maura Johnston's second goal of the season. Junior Jennifer Tafro sent a centering pass that Johnston was able to split the legs of goalkeeper CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) for the eventual game-winner.

Carlini, who came into the game ranked first in the country in save percentage, allowed two goals and made 10 saves for the Rangers. Her counterpart, Megan Bosland made seven saves to earn the victory.

Montclair State finished with a 14-13 advantage in shots while both teams attempted 12 corners. The victory gives the Red Hawks a 14-13 edge in the all-time series that dates back to 1983.

The Rangers will continue Landmark Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Huntingdon, Pa. for a matchup against Juniata. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
