Strong Second Half Not Enough to Overtake Cardinals

Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 25, 2012) – The Rangers staged a second half comeback that fell short in a 4-2 loss to Catholic University (10-7, 5-1 Landmark) in the nation's capital this afternoon.

Drew falls to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in Landmark Conference play. The Rangers have already clinched a postseason berth and will await the results of the game between Scranton and Juniata tomorrow afternoon. A loss by Scranton will give the Rangers the second seed while a Juniata loss will drop the Rangers to the third seed.

Catholic dominated the first half of play opening up a 3-0 lead and outshooting the Rangers 19-5. The Cardinals struck twice in the first 4:38 of the game and capped off the first frame with the second goal of the game by Kim Hermann in the 33rd minute.

The tides completely turned in the final 35 minutes beginning with a goal by Sami Calabrese (Dover, N.H./Dover) in the 52nd minute. The senior scored her third goal in as many games by putting in a rebound off her own shot.

Junior Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton) pulled the Rangers within a goal with 6:45 remaining in the game to make the scored 3-2.  The Cardinals eventually put the game out of reach with their fourth goal of the game with 3:05 left in regulation.

The Rangers went on to outshoot the Cardinals 11-6 in the second half of play.  The two teams each took eight penalty corners for the game. Drew goaltender CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) had the second most amount of saves in her career, making 16 stops.

Drew will either host Scranton as the second seed or travel back to Catholic on Wednesday afternoon for the Landmark Conference semifinals. Check drewrangers.com and follow @GoDrewRangers on Twitter for the latest updates.
