Rangers Ground Hawks in Home Opener

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (November 24, 2012) – Drew (1-3) picked up its first victory of the season today with a 70-54 win over Hunter College (2-3) in Baldwin Gym. Junior John Ford (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) had a team-high 15 points to pace the Ranger offense.

Ford was 7-of-10 from the field and scored eight of his 15 points in the second half of play. Classmate Luke Glass (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) was the only other Drew player in double figures as he pitched in 13 points. Glass knocked down three of the Rangers five 3-point field goals in 27 minutes of play.

Hawks forward, Matthew Hunter, led all scorers with 17 points and pulled down a team-high five rebounds. Ben Mayell and Lorenzo Brown each had 10 points to round out the Hunter scoring.

The lead only changed hands twice in the contest with the last Hawk lead coming midway through the first half. Drew put together an 11-0 run beginning at the 11:22 mark in the first half and never looked back. The Rangers shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half and finished off the game shooting a season-high 48 percent.

Making his second-straight start, sophomore Chris Capelli (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds including five on the offensive side of the ball.

Freshman Mike Klinger (Franklin Park, N.J./Rutgers Prep), who led the team in scoring coming into the contest, added nine points in the victory.

Today marked the first of a three-game homestand for the Rangers as they take on Berkeley College in Baldwin Gym on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
