ANNVILLE, Pa. (November 8, 2012) – For the second time this season, Lebanon Valley (11-8) was able to clip Drew (12-7) in field hockey action today. The Dutchwomen advanced to the ECAC Semifinals with a 6-1 victory over the Rangers this afternoon.
Lebanon Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the first 12 minutes of play thanks to goals by Megan Harris and Kelsey Wallen. The Rangers cut the deficit in half in the 22 minute after being awarded a penalty stroke. Head Coach Felicia Cappabianca elected Landmark Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.), to take the free hit. The junior midfielder converted it for her 19th goal of the season, which is now tied for 6th most in a season by a Drew field hockey player.
From that point forward it was all Lebanon Valley. The Dutchwomen tallied two goals within four minutes of each other to take a commanding 4-1 lead into the half. Kirsten Martzall completed a hat trick by adding two goals in the second half to round out the Lebanon Valley scoring.
The second seed in the ECAC Tournament, the Dutchwomen will now play Stevens on Saturday in the semifinals.
The Rangers were outshot in the contest 23-14 including an 11-3 advantage by the Dutchwomen in the second half. Drew was awarded 21 penalty corners, the second most all season, compared to 12 by Lebanon Valley.
