Box Score MADISON, N.J. (December 1, 2012) – The Catholic University Cardinals (5-0, 1-0 Landmark) won their sixth-consecutive game over the Rangers today after a 66-55 victory in Baldwin Gym. Drew suffers its first loss at home, falling to 2-4 overall on the year and 0-1 in Landmark Conference play.
A trio of Cardinals were in double figures, led by Chris Kearney who poured in a team-high 21 points. Catholic shot 45 percent from the field including a 50 percent effort in the first half. Steve Limberiou was a dominant force inside, leading the Cardinals with eight rebounds and added 14 points. Guard Shawn Holmes was 4-of-9 from the floor, finishing with 12 points and seven boards.
For the Rangers,
Luke Glass (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) scored a career-high 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting. The junior hit a career-best five 3-pointers and was 3-of-6 from the free throw line. Junior
John Ford (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) put together his third double-double as a Ranger by scoring 11 points and pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds.
After three ties and a one lead change over the first eight minutes of play, the Cardinals put together an 11-2 run in a span of 4:36 to take a 25-14 lead at the 6:08 mark. Five different Catholic players scored on the run and the Rangers did not capture the lead for the remainder of the contest. The Cardinals took a 36-20 lead into the halftime break.
The Rangers put together a much better effort in the second half and actually outscored Catholic 35-30. After a slow start to begin the frame, the Rangers shot the ball nearly 56 percent from the floor in the second half and made 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. The Cardinals held a significant, 40-24 advantage on the board, which proved to be the difference in the game. The 17 offensive boards were the second-most by a Drew opponent this season.
The blue and green will hit the road tomorrow to take on Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. Tip is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
