Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. (December 29, 2012) – The lead changed hands three times in the final 32 seconds as Centenary College (5-6) defeated Drew (4-6) this afternoon, 65-63 in the second game of the Red Robin Holiday Tournament hosted by DeSales University.
Centenary scored the go-ahead basket with 18 seconds remaining on a three-pointer by Max Hughes. The Rangers had recaptured the lead with 32 seconds left on a layup by
Mike Klinger (Franklin Park, N.J./Rutgers Prep). The freshman scored 18 of his 23 points in the second half and had now scored 20 or more points in two of his last three games.
Junior
Luke Glass (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) paced the Drew offense in first half, netting 12 of his 15 points. Senior
Lucas Levenson (Margate City, N.J./Atlantic City) had a team-high nine rebounds, added four points and two blocks.
For the Cyclones, Hughes scored a team-high 19 points including the eventual game-winner. Centenary held a 39-34 edge in rebounding and were led by Andy Charles who had a game-high 12 boards.
The Rangers scored the first eight points of the contest which ended up being the largest lead of the half between both teams. The two squads ending up tying twice in the first half before the Rangers emerged with a four-point edge at the end of the half.
Drew held a lead as high 10 with 15 minutes to play but were victims of a 15-2 run that gave the Cyclones a 51-47 lead with 9:11 remaining in the contest. The game tied up one more time with the lead exchanging hands twice over the final 5:37.
Senior
John Ford (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) was the other double-digit scorer for the Rangers as he added 11 points and five rebounds.
The Rangers will play in the consolation game tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. against Penn. State Abington who lost to DeSales, 99-84.
