Rangers Shut Out Moravian in Landmark Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (March 21, 2012) – In a rematch of last year's Landmark Conference Championship, Drew (1-4, 1-0 Landmark) won all nine matches over Moravian today on the road. The Rangers handed Moravian their first loss of the season, moving the Greyhounds to 3-1 and 0-1 in conference play.

The Rangers did not lose a set all afternoon, taking all three doubles matches and sweeping the Greyhounds in singles play. Reigning Landmark Conference Player of the Year, Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey), got his season on track winning 6-1, 6-1 over Kevin Holze in number one singles.

He teamed up with his brother, Elliot Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey), in number one doubles and cruised to an 8-3 victory. Elliot Smego also registered his first win of the season in singles play, defeating Lewis Cooper, 6-3, 6-4 in the number four slot.

The duo of Matt Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) and Matt Imbo (Islip, N.Y./Islip) recorded an 8-0 shutout in number two doubles. Both Brisotti and Imbo notched straight-set victories in singles play to help the Rangers to their first win of the spring.

The Rangers will be home this weekend to continue their Landmark schedule on Saturday against Scranton at 1:00 p.m.
