Rangers Defeat Scranton in Rain-shortened Match

MADISON, N.J. (March 24, 2012) – The Drew men's tennis team picked up its second win of the season with a 5-2 triumph over Scranton this afternoon. The victory improves the Rangers to 2-4 on the season and 2-0 in Landmark Conference play.

The Rangers took two of the three doubles matches to start the afternoon. The combination of Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) and Elliot Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) won 8-6 in number one doubles. Djedjy Hill (Haiti/Rancocas Valley) and Ryan Johnson (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) squeaked out a 9-8 victory in number three doubles to take a 2-1 advantage going into singles play.

Raul Smego pulled out a three-set victory in number one singles, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 over Tim McGurrin to improve to 2-0 against Landmark opponents this season. The Rangers captured two, straight-set wins by Matt Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) and Elliot

Smego sealed the match for the Rangers just as the weather became an issue.
The Rangers will be back on the court on Thursday when they take on cross-street rival Fairleigh Dickinson at 4:30 p.m. at home.
