Rangers Even Record, Remain Unblemished in Landmark

TOWSON, Md. (March 31, 2012) – The Rangers won their fourth-straight match this afternoon with a 9-0 victory over Goucher (0-13, 0-3 Landmark). Drew improves to 4-4 on the year and 3-0 in Landmark Conference play.

The Rangers began the day with three-straight victories in doubles play with little resistance for the Gophers. At number one doubles, Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) and Elliot Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) remained unbeaten in conference play with a 8-1 victory over David Spivey and Nick Pelensky.

Senior Matt Brisotti (Mattitcuk, N.Y./Mattituck) and Matt Imbo (Islip, N.Y./Islip) did not lose a game for the second-straight match with an 8-0 victory at second doubles.

In singles play, Raul Smego recorded a 6-2, 7-6 victory at the number one position to improve his in-conference record to 3-0. The Rangers registered straight-set wins by Adam Gerber (Montclair, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), Brisotti, Elliot Smego and Ryan Johnson (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) in singles play to power the Rangers to the second shutout of the year.

Drew will continue its Landmark schedule with a matchup with Juniata in Huntingdon, Pa. on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
