Rangers Deliver Third-straight Shutout, Blow Past Eagles

MADISON, N.J. (April 7, 2012) – Drew evened its record to 5-5 on the season and 4-0 in the Landmark Conference with a 9-0 shutout of Juniata (6-10, 1-2 Landmark) this afternoon on Raffensperger Tennis Courts. With the win, the Rangers now have won 37 straight matches over Landmark opponents.

The Rangers got off to a hot start with three doubles victories, including a 9-7 triumph by Djedjy Hill (Haiti/Rancocas Valley) and Ryan Johnson (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) at number three singles. Drew secured a pair of 8-4 victories in number one and two doubles to take a 3-0 lead going into singles play.

The Rangers continued their dominance in singles by recording six, straight-set victories. Reigning Landmark Conference player of the Week, Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number one singles over Justin Wisniewski. 

Senior Matt Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) won his seventh-straight match recording a 6-2, 6-1 win over Elliott Perow. Classmate Elliott Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey), Hill, Johnson and Matt Imbo (Islip, N.Y./Islip) rounded out the Drew singles wins.

The Rangers will be back home on Tuesday to take on The College of New Jersey in a non-conference match in Madison.
