MADISON, N.J. (April 14, 2012) – The Drew men's tennis team locked up the number one overall seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Playoffs with a 7-2 victory over Catholic University (12-3, 4-2 Landmark) this afternoon. The Rangers improve to 6-0 in league play and 7-5 overall.
After winning all three doubles matches, the Rangers needed only two matches to capture their fourth-straight Landmark Conference Regular Season Title. At number one doubles,
Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) and
Elliott Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) quickly won 8-1 over Cassian Utire and Jean Paul Roman. Senior
Matt Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) and junior
Matt Imbo (Islip, N.Y./Islip) recorded their fourth shutout of the season with an 8-0 victory at number two singles.
Raul Smego and Brisotti claimed straight-set victories in number one and two singles respectively. Elliot Smego and and
Djedjy Hill (Haiti/Rancocas Valley (N.J.)) also collected singles victories to help the Rangers record their seventh win of the season.
The Rangers will play their last non-conference match of the season on Wednesday against Hunter College at 4:30 p.m on the Drew Tennis Courts.
