MADISON, N.J. (April 25, 2012) – The Drew men's tennis team cruised past Moravian (8-5) in the Landmark Conference Semifinals this afternoon with a 5-0 shutout of the Greyhounds. The top-seeded Rangers will host Scranton in the championship match on Saturday afternoon.
Needing only two wins in singles play,
Djedjy Hill (Haiti/Rancocas Valley (N.J.)) clinched the fifth victory of the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win over David Chan. Junior
Matt Imbo (Islip, N.Y./Islip) registered the other singles victory with straight set win over Brad Kutcha.
The Rangers won all three doubles matches, taking a commanding 3-0 lead. The closest match in doubles came at the number one position where
Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) and
Elliot Smego (Ponce Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) came away with an 8-6 victory.
The combination of
Matt Brisotti (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) and Imbo won their fourth straight match with a 8-5 win at number two singles. Hill and
Adam Gerber (Montclair, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) took home a 8-2 victory in number three singles to aid the Rangers fast start.
Drew will look for its fifth-straight Landmark Championship and 12
th straight Conference crown at home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Rangers took the regular season matchup, 5-2 back on March 24
th.
