MADISON, N.J. (September 14, 2012) – The defending Landmark Conference Champion men's tennis team got their fall season off on the right foot with a 5-4 win over Baruch College (0-1) this afternoon. The match was the first of two dual matches this fall in preparation for the ITA Regionals on the last weekend in September.
Despite taking only one match in doubles, the Rangers went on to win four of the six matches in singles play for the first win of the fall. Senior
Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) and freshman
Hunter Lathrop (South Londonderry, Vt./Stratton Memorial School) posted an 8-2 win in number one doubles for Drew's first point of the day.
Lathrop and Smego were also able to secure the Rangers two more points after straight-set wins at number one and two singles respectively. Seniors
Adam Gerber (Montclair, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and
Matt Imbo (Islp, N.Y./Islip) locked up the Drew victory with wins at number three and four singles. Gerber took opponent Artem Borbachevskiy to three sets with the final set going in his favor, 14-12.
The Rangers will be back on the court next Monday, September 24
th to take on cross-street rival Fairleigh Dickinson at 4:30.
