Devils Hang on for One-goal Victory

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (September 15, 2012) – Fairleigh Dickinson (4-2) held off a charging Ranger offense in the second half to come away with a 1-0 victory over Drew (4-2) this afternoon in the field hockey edition of “The Battle of Madison Ave.”.

The Devils recorded the game's only goal late in the first half to register their second-straight win over the Rangers. In the 29th minute Niki Ikeda fired a shot that was kicked away by Drew goaltender CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) but right to the stick of Lanie Andrews who slammed in her sixth goal of the season.

Carlini played all 70 minutes for the Rangers and made eight saves. Her counterpart, Tess Loughran put together a stellar performance for her second shutout of the season. The junior made a game-high 13 saves in her fourth win of the year.

Loughran and the Devil defense denied all efforts by the Rangers to tie the game up. Drew held a 23-13 advantage in shots and took 16 penalty corners compared to just eight by FDU. In the closing seconds, the Rangers drew two corners but were twice denied by Loughran and the Devils.

The Rangers will be back at home on Saturday, September 22nd to open up Landmark Conference play against Susquehanna. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Madison.
