Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. (September 19, 2012) – Manhattanville (3-4) scored two goals in the final six minutes of play to defeat the Rangers 2-1 in non-conference action this evening. All three of the game's goals came in final 20 minutes.
Drew (3-3) grabbed the initial lead of the game in the 72
nd minute on the first goal of the season by senior
Michelle Malone (Rochelle Park, N.J./Paramus Catholic). Junior
Caroline Kuras (Allamuchy, N.J./Pope John XXIII) sent a cross from the end line that Malone was able to put into the back of the net. The assist for Kuras was her fourth, which leads the team and ranks third in the Landmark Conference.
Both teams combined for just 10 shots in the contest including four in the first half alone. The Valiants made two of their three shots in the second half count to help secure their third win of the fall. In the 84
th minute Manhattanville tied the game up at one on an unassisted goal by Morgan Rebollal.
With 2:03 remaining in the game, the Valiants scored the game-winner on a near side cross that Rebollal was able to push along to Christie DeMarco for the winning tally.
Neither goaltender saw much action as Ranger netminder
Kim Jaikissson (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) played all 90 minutes making two saves. Manhattanville keeper, Grace Kraemer was credited with one save on the night.
The Rangers will open up Landmark Conference play this weekend when they travel to Susquehanna on Saturday. The women' will kick-off a soccer doubleheader in Selinsgrove, Pa. beginning at 2:00 p.m.
