Rangers Down Cavaliers in Fall Fest Finale

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (September 2, 2012) – For the second game in a row, junior Sarah Charles (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris) netted the game-winning goal as Drew (2-0) defeated Cabrini (0-2), 3-2 this afternoon in the final game of the 29th Annual Fall Fest Tournament.

A quiet first half offensively saw the Rangers go into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead courtesy of the first goal of the season by sophomore Melissa Boyd (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley).  Drew held a 6-3 advantage in shots and took eight penalty corners compared to just three by the Cavaliers.

The final stanza began with Cabrini notching the game at one just three minutes in. A scramble in front of the cage allowed Katie Savage to slip a short pass to Taylor McGarvey who was waiting on the far post for the Cavaliers first goal of the season.
The Rangers were able to recapture the lead a little over five minutes later when  Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) fired a shot to the back of the cage off a pass from sophomore Alexandria De Sousa (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern).

Unlike the first half, Cabrini went on the offensive, firing 11 shots in the second half alone. Finally in the 64th minute, McGarvey was able to tie the game again after she redirected a pass from Rita McKeown into the cage to tie the game at two.

Drew wasted little time answering the Cabrini goal when Charles was able to tip in a pass from Gagliano a little over a minute later for the game-winner.

Junior CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) played all 70 minutes in front of the cage for the Rangers making four saves including a stop on Cabrini's only penalty stroke of the game.

The Rangers will be home on Wednesday for a non-conference tilt against Stevens at 7:00 p.m.
