Box Score MADISON, N.J. (September 22, 2012) – Drew (5-2, 1-0 Landmark) opened up Landmark Conference play with a 7-1 victory over Susquehanna (2-6, 0-1 Landmark) this afternoon in Ranger Stadium. Junior
Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) netted her first career hat trick with a trio of goals in the first half.
Gagliano scored three of the Rangers first four goals including the game's opening goal just 3:58 into the contest. Senior
Sami Calabrese (Dover, N.H./Dover) scored her first goal of the fall in the 10
th minute to give Drew a 2-0 advantage. Both of the Rangers first two goals were assisted by
Bea Cannavale (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) who ended up with three on the day. She now has a conference-leading, eight assists on the year.
Susquehanna got on the scoreboard in the 23
rd minute on a unassisted goal from Ally Bradley. Gagliano sent the Rangers into halftime with a 4-1 lead on her third goal of the game with just under four minutes to play in the half. Drew owned a 15-3 advantage in shots in the first 35 minutes of play.
Junior goalkeepers
CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and
Sarah Stewart (Shavertown, Pa./Dallas) combined for a second half shutout to help preserve the victory. Carlini made six saves in nearly 60 minutes of work.
Drew's leading scorer,
Sarah Charles (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris), also tallied her first career three-goal game, registering her 7th, 8th and 9th goals of the year. Sophomore
Melissa Boyd (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) rounded off the Ranger scoring with her second tally of the fall in 60
th minute.
The Rangers will hit the road on Tuesday when they travel to Wayne, N.J. for a non-conference tilt with William Paterson. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
