Late Game Heroics Push Rangers Past Pioneers

Box Score WAYNE, N.J. (September 25, 2012) – A goal by Sarah Charles (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris) with 10:40 to play in the game propelled Drew (6-2) to a 2-0 victory over William Paterson (2-8) earlier this evening.

The two teams played nearly 60 minutes of scoreless field hockey before the eventual game-winner by Charles off a pass from sophomore Melissa Boyd (Hellertown, N.J./Saucon Valley) who fed the team's leading scorer waiting on the left post. The goal was a Landmark Conference leading 10th of the season for the senior, establishing a new career-high.

The two teams played virtually even game, with Drew holding a slight, 10-7 advantage in shots. Drew netminder CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) made four saves to help preserve her second shutout of the season and seventh of her career.

Just under six minutes after the Rangers first goal, freshman Taryn Murphy (Wilton, Conn./Portsmouth Abbey School) added the final tally of the night off a cross from Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton) to make the score 2-0.

Pioneer goalkeeper Kellye Statz made a game-high five saves in the loss.

The Rangers will hit the road on Saturday when they travel to Moravian for a Landmark Conference matchup. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field in Bethlehem, Pa.
