Box Score MONTCLAIR, N.J. (October 16, 2013) – The nation's top team, Montclair State (13-1) bested the 20
th-ranked Drew University field hockey team, 4-0 in a battle of top 20 teams this evening. The loss is only the second of the season for the Rangers, dropping them to 11-2 on the year.
The Drew defense held for the first 30 minutes of the contest before the Red Hawks scored three quick goals in a five minute span. Montclair St. held a 25-7 advantage in the shots in the contest including a 14-1 edge in the first half.
The Red Hawks punched in two quick goals beginning in the 32
nd minute. Sophomore Meghan Weiss gave Montclair St. the initial lead with her second goal of the season. A little over a minute later, Jennifer Tafro gave the Red Hawks a 2-0 lead going into halftime. Arielle Galgano completed the three-goal burst just 1:13 into the second half, giving the Red Hawks a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Rangers offense created more opportunities in the second half of play, firing a total of six shots. Montclair St. goalkeeper, Rebecca Brattole kept Drew off the scoreboard with four saves on the night and her fifth shutout.

CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) made a season-high 12 saves in the loss. Defender
Alexandria De Sousa (Vorhees, N.J./Eastern) was credited with her first defensive save of the season early in the second half.
The loss marks the third in row to the Red Hawks since the 2-1 overtime victory in 2010 at Ranger Stadium.
Drew will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel down to Towson, Md. for a conference matchup with Goucher. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. on Beldon Field.
