Box Score TOWSON, Md. (October 19, 2013) – The Drew University field hockey team clinched a Landmark Conference playoff berth with a 4-0 win over Goucher College (3-10, 0-4 Landmark) this afternoon. The Rangers scored three goals in the second half, improving to 12-2 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
Sophomore
Sam Barcia (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) scored twice in the second half, for her 18
th and 19
th goals of the season. The 19 goals lead the Landmark Conference and are the sixth most ever in school history. Senior
Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton) was credited with two assists on the day, moving her into sole possession of ninth place all time with 23.
Sophomore
Taryn Murphy (Wilton, Conn./Portsmouth Abbey School) score her second goal of the season to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead at the half. Senior
Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) crossed a pass from the right side for her seventh assist of the season.
The Rangers piled on three goals in the second half with the first two coming off the stick of Barcia. Sophomore
Amber De Marco (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) capped off the Rangers scoring in the 68
th minute for her third goal of the year.
Drew did not allow a shot by the Goucher offense in the first half of play. The Rangers held a 32-5 advantage in shots on the afternoon and attempted 15 corners compared to just three by the Gophers. Goalkeepers
CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and
Sarah Stewart (Shavertown, Pa./Dallas) split time in cage with Stewart recording a team-high two saves.
The Rangers will be back in action on Tuesday night when they host Richard Stockton. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Ranger Stadium.
