MADISON, N.J. (October 22, 2013) – It took over 70 minutes of hockey but the 20th ranked Drew University field hockey team (13-2) prevailed in overtime, 1-0 to defeat in-state foe Richard Stockton (10-5) this evening. Senior Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) scored the game-winner just 49 seconds into the first overtime.

Sophomore Sam Barcia (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) authored the game-winning score, driving down the right side of the circle and centering a pass to a cutting Gagliano. The senior forward tucked the ball into the lower left corner of the cage for her 13th goal of the season. For Barcia, it was her fourth assist and Landmark Conference-leading,  42nd point of the year.

Neither team was able to create solid scoring opportunities in regulation. The Rangers owned a 14-9 advantage in shots but the Ospreys out-cornered Drew, 12-7 in the contest.

Senior goalkeeper CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) was credited with her fourth shutout of the season. She made three saves to earn her 13th win, breaking the school record for wins in a season. Her counterpart, Liz Stankiewicz made a game-high five saves in the loss.

The Drew defense held strong to preserve the shutout, Amber De Marco (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) and Alexandria De Sousa (Vorhees, N.J./Eastern) were both credited with defensive saves.
The Rangers avenged a 2-1 loss to Stockton last season and now hold a 4-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Already with a spot in the Landmark Conference playoffs, the Rangers will travel to Scranton on Saturday afternoon. The Royals are 2-2 in league play this season while the Rangers sit atop the league standings at 4-0.
