Mariners Complete Season Sweep of Rangers

Box Score KINGS POINT, N.Y. (February 13, 2013) Merchant Marine (13-11, 6-7 Landmark) completed the season sweep of the Drew (9-15, 3-10 Landmark) for the second-straight year, defeating the Rangers 82-68 in O'Hara Hall this evening.

Junior Luke Glass (Rumson, N.J./Rumson Fair Haven) led the way for the Rangers scoring a team-high 22 points including a 7-for-8 effort from the free throw line. Glass has been in double figures for the Rangers in all but four of his 24 games played this season. Freshman Mike Klinger (Franklin Park, N.J./Rutgers Prep) was the only other Ranger to reach double digits, scoring 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting.

Reigning Landmark Conference Player of the Year, Reed Buck, scored a game-high 24 points including a 4-for-6 performance from beyond the arc.  Nick Sergio helped the Mariners take control of the glass, pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds.

Merchant Marine grabbed 59 rebounds on the night, the most of any Drew opponent in regulation this season, compared to just 29 by the Rangers. The significant gap on the boards, was evident in a 40-18 advantage in points in the paint by the Mariners and a total of 20 points off second-chance opportunities.

The lead changed hands a total of nine times in the first half but the Mariners took the lead for good at the 7:58 mark on a jumper by Zach Karcewksi. The Mariners held a 36-32 edge at halftime and would not let the Rangers any closer for the remainder of the contest.

Merchant Marine shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half and held a lead as high as 23 in the final minutes. The Rangers on the other hand were only 9-for-27 over the final 20 minutes, with four of those shots coming from three-point land.

The Rangers will close out 2012-13 in the nightcap of a men's/women's doubleheader at Juniata on Saturday. The men are scheduled to tip at 7:00 p.m. in Huntingdon, Pa.
