Box Score HUNTINGDON, Pa. (February 16, 2012) – The Juniata Eagles (17-8, 9-5 Landmark) erased a 10-point second half deficit to defeat the Rangers, 70-63 this evening in the Kennedy Sports & Recreation Center. The Rangers end their season with an overall record of 9-16 and 3-11 in the Landmark Conference.
With the win, the Eagles finish up the regular season with a 12-1 record at home and clinch the third seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference tournament.
Freshman
Mike Klinger (Franklin Park, N.J./Rutgers Prep) led the Rangers with 14 points, including a 4-for-8 shooting performance from beyond the arc. Junior
John Ford (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) was the only other Ranger in double figures, netting 11 points and pulling down four rebounds.
Alex Raymond, Brian Scholly and Jeremy Hays each scored 15 points and the Eagles as a team shot 50 percent from the floor for the game. Kevin Stapleton collected a game-high 10 rebounds and added seven points for Juniata.
After a finishing the first half with a 29-28 lead, the Eagles quickly fell behind in the second half thanks to a 13-2 run out of the halftime break by the Rangers. Juniata chipped away at the Drew lead for the next four minutes and made the score 44-42 with 12:19 remaining. Freshman
Jason Huelbig (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) knocked down a pair of free throws with 12:13 remaining that started a 10-2 spurt by the Rangers and a 53-44 lead with eight minutes remaining.
The Eagle comeback was spearheaded by Raymond who also compiled a game-high five assists. The senior, guard hit four three-pointers on five consecutive scoring possessions. His last long ball of the evening gave the Eagles a 59-57 lead with 3:43 remaining, as he scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half of play. The Rangers did not capture the lead for the remainder of the contest, scoring only six points in the final two minutes.
