MADISON, N.J. (March 23, 2013) – The Drew University men's tennis team opened up Landmark Conference play this afternoon with a 6-3 win over Juniata College (4-3, 0-1 Landmark). The victory improves the Rangers to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The win extends the program's winning streak over conference opponents to 105. The Rangers took a quick, 2-1 lead after doubles play claiming victories in the one and two position. Freshman
Hunter Lathrop (Southlondonderry, Vt./Stratton Mountain School) and senior
Matt Imbo (Islip, N.Y./Islip) won 8-5 in number one singles over Elliott Perow and Bryan Gregory. Pairing up for the second time this season,
Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) and
Djedjy Hill (Haiti/Rancocas Valley) defeated Justin Wisniewski and Brice Morey, 8-4.
The Rangers clinched their third win of the season by winning four of the six singles matches in straight sets. Lathrop improved his record to 8-3 on the season with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Wisniewski at first singles. After tying the match at 5-5, Elliott Perow didn't win another game in number two singles against Smego. The senior won the final eight games to for his 44
th career singles win.
Freshman
Adam Clark (Fremont, Calif./John F. Kennedy) won his match in the six position while Hill recorded a 6-1, 7-6 victory at the three slot.
Drew will travel to Susquehanna tomorrow for a make-up match originally scheduled for last Saturday. Match time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Selinsgrove, Pa.
