WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 13, 2013) – The Drew University men's tennis team clipped Catholic (11-5, 4-2 Landmark) this afternoon, 5-4 to remain undefeated in Landmark Conference play. The Rangers move their unbeaten streak against conference opponents to 110.
The Rangers are now 5-0 in the Landmark Conference and 7-5 overall. The Rangers are one of four teams with four or more wins in the Landmark Conference this season.
The Rangers were able to take two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead going into singles play. Senior
Raul Smego (Ponce, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) and
Djedjy Hill (Haiti/Rancocas Valley) captured an 8-2 victory at number one doubles. Freshman
Hunter Lathrop (South Londonderry, Vt./Stratton Mountain School) and
Matt Imbo (Islip, N.Y./Islip) also pulled out an 8-2 win at number two doubles.
Smego and Lathrop also recorded victories in singles play. Smego won his number one singles match after Brian Bradley retired. Lathrop won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 over Cassian Utrie in number two singles for the fourth win of the match.
Tommy Butschi (Tyler, Texas/New Braunfels) helped clinch the match with his win at the five position.
The Rangers will return home for a non-conference tilt with Hunter College. Match time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Madison.
