Rangers Capture Mad Ave Crown

Box Score Madison, N.J. (September 21, 2013)-- The Drew Field Hockey team (6-0) defeated cross-town rival FDU-Florham (3-4), 2-1 in the Battle of Madison Avenue this afternoon.

The Rangers fell behind in the first half when FDU-Florham midfielder Lanie Andrews collected the rebound off a blocked shot and fired a shot into the back of the goal. As time expired in the first half of play Drew was awarded a penalty corner. Senior Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./ Freehold) fired a shot off an assist from junior Melissa Boyd (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) from the left side of the goal passed the goalkeeper to tie the game, 1-1 entering the half.

Drew controlled the second half of play holding the Devil offense scoreless and out shooting the Devils 6-4. Sophomore Sam Barcia (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) scored her 10th goal of the season and the eventual game-winner off a feed from senior Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton) in the 51st minute of the contest.

Rangers goalkeeper CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) registered the sixth win of the season. Carlini recorded a season-high eight saves in the victory. With the win this afternoon Carlini broke the school record for wins in a career. She surpassed Tara Connelley C'04 with her 36th career win.

Seeking their seventh consecutive victory, the team travels to Schenectady, N.Y. on Monday, September 23 for a match with Union College at 5:00 p.m.
