Rangers Shut Out Hawks, Improve to 3-0

Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. – (September 7, 2013) – The Drew University field hockey team blanked St. Mary's College (Md.) 2-0 today in the opening round of the Bryn Mawr College Tournament. The Rangers remain unbeaten and move to 3-0 on the season while the Hawks drop to 0-2.

The victory advances the Rangers to the Championship Game tomorrow afternoon against host, Bryn Mawr who defeated St. Vincent's, 9-1 earlier in the day.

The Rangers got on the scoreboard just 9:49 into the contest on the second goal of the season by senior Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.). Sophomore Bea Cannavale (Branchville, N.J./High Point) was credited with her first assist of the season to help put the Rangers up 1-0.
Drew rode the one-goal lead into the halftime break and did not surrender a St. Mary's shot in the first 35 minutes of play.  The Rangers extended their lead in the 62nd minute when Melissa Boyd (Hellertown, N.J./Saucon Valley) connected on her  first goal of the season.  Senior Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton) registered her second assist of 2013.

The Rangers held a 23-2 shot advantage and were awarded 14 penalty corners compared to just two by the Hawks.

Hawk netminder Christy Bishop made a game-high 17 saves in a losing effort. Drew keeper CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) made two saves and was credited with her 10th career shutout.

The Rangers will take on Bryn Mawr tomorrow in the tournament finale at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow.
