Rangers Win Bryn Mawr Fall Tournament

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (September 8, 2013)-- The Drew University Field Hockey team improved to 4-0 today with a 5-1 victory over Bryn Mawr (2-1), capturing the Bryn Mawr Fall Tournament title.

Senior captain Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) and sophomore Sam Barcia (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) each scored twice to lead the Rangers offense. Senior Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton) and junior Melissa Boyd (Hellertown, N.J./Saucon Valley) each were credited with two assists.

Gagliano got the scoring started early for the Rangers with a goal just five minutes into the first period. Boyd recorded her first of two assists on the day to put the Rangers up 1-0.

In the 14th minute, Barcia got in on the scoring action, netting her first of the day off a pass from Waleko.  Ninety seconds later, Waleko scored to put the Rangers up 3-0 after converting a feed from sophomore Amanda Hearney (Shoreham Wading-River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading-River).

Bryn Mawr added their lone goal of the match with five minutes left to play in the first period off the stick of Madison Beckamann.The Rangers capped off the first half scoring with four minutes left to play when Barcia added her second goal of the contest. The Rangers never trailed in the in the game and took a 4-1 lead into the half.

The match's final goal was scored by Gagliano, her second of the day and fourth of the season, after Drew was awarded a penalty corner just 2:24 into the second half. The goal was assisted by both Boyd and Waleko, giving the Rangers a commanding 5-1 lead.

Senior goalkeeper CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) collected her fourth win of the season, saving five of the six shots Bryn Mawr put on goal. Carlini's win today marks the 33rd of her career moving her into 2nd place all-time. She now trails only Tara Connelly C'04 who racked up 35 wins from 2001-04.

Drew will be on the road again on Wednesday night when they take on Union College at 6:00 p.m. in Schenectady, N.Y.
