Box Score BETHLEHEM, P.A. (Nov. 1, 2014) – The Drew University women's field hockey team was defeated by Moravian College by an overtime final of 3-2 on a chilly, rainy Pennsylvania afternoon in the 2014 season finale.
The Rangers (4-12, 2-5 Landmark) tied the game with nine minutes to play on a goal by freshman
Madi Sheetz to force overtime, but the Greyhounds (8-10, 2-5) got the game-winner 3:15 into overtime.
Five minutes into the contest, Drew opened the scoring. Junior midfielder
Michelle Fallon gathered the ball and proceeded to escort past the Moravian defense. Fallon took it deep into the circle and ultimately past the Moravian goalkeeper before she popped it into the right side of the cage.
The goal gave the Moravian offense a jolt as they responded with a goal of their own just over a minute later.
After those two quick scores, both offenses suddenly became stagnant. It would take until the 55-minute mark before anyone would score again. Moravian buried their second goal at that point and took the lead.
At 61 minutes and with time running out, the Rangers took their turn at quick response equalizers. Sheetz slammed home her fourth score of the year to tie the game up once again, assisted by Fallon.
Regulation would end with the two teams tied at 2-2. It would take only three minutes of overtime before the game ended. A Moravian forward swept a pass across the goalmouth and to the right side of the Drew cage. Another forward then poked that pass in the goal for the game-winner.
Junior goalkeeper
Sarah Stewart made five saves for the Rangers in goal.
