(Nov. 21, 2014) – The Drew University men's and women's swimming teams suffered a pair of Landmark Conference dual meet losses after competitive battles that saw momentum swings in both directions on Friday evening. The women dropped a 108-92 decision, while the men fell 100-86 to the Blue Jays.

"It was a great meet and a close contest between two up and coming teams," said head coach
Eric Scheingoltz. "We had lifetime bests and season bests in tonight's meet, and we're very happy with the team's progress."

The Ranger women bookended the meet with wins in the relay races, the 200-yard medley and the 200-yard freestyle. Drew dove ahead in the meet's opening event as the team of
Jordan Jessup,
Lindsay Pearce,
Kristin Zeigler and
Jenny Stein bested two Blue Jay squads with a time of 2:02.10 in the medley relay. Pearce's breaststroke, Zeigler's butterfly and Stein's freestyle were all season-best marks.

Stein turned in a heat-best 26.58 second 50-yard freestyle as the anchor in the winning 200 free relay performance. Jessup, Zeigler and
Payton Hakes contributed to the victory that garnered 11 points for the Rangers. Stein was a perfect 4-for-4 in first place finishes in her events on Friday. The rookie won the 100-yard backstroke by tying her collegiate high time of 1:05.44, and claimed the 50-yard freestyle sprint in 26.11 seconds.

Zeigler concluded a successful day in the pool with a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. The junior captain's 1:09.74 was the fastest of the season and was just 1.5 seconds behind the first place finisher.

Meanwhile in the men's meet, Elizabethtown got off to the quick start before Drew's
Bobby DeMarco began to shift the tide with a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:03.06, the fastest Ranger time this season in the event.

Logan Amodio continued the fight back with a thrilling victory in the 200-yard individual medley. His time of 2:11.08 bested his Blue Jay competitor by four-tenths of a second. The sophomore led the charge in the 100-yard butterfly as Drew swimmers took spots 1-3. Amodio won in 59.53, while
Sebastiano Pigazzi was a touch behind in 59.56 and senior
Niklas Andersen was third in 1:08.17. Amodio finished a productive night by winning yet another barnburner in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.22, touching the wall just a tenth of a second ahead of the second place finisher from Elizabethtown.

In the men's 100-yard freestyle,
Mike Smoliga turned in Drew's fastest time of the season in 54:04 seconds to place second.

The men finished on a high note with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay as DeMarco, Pigazzi, Smoliga and
Peter Mari combined for a time of 1:37.80. Smoliga's anchor leg of 23.39 went down as a lifetime best for the junior.

The Ranger swim squads remain on the road in Pennsylvania for another Landmark Conference dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Susquehanna University at 10:00 a.m.
