Rangers Grab Tenth Win, Move to Third in Conference Standings

Box Score Selinsgrove, Pa. (February 1, 2014) – The Drew University men's basketball (10-9, 4-4) team defeated conference foe Susquehanna (12-7, 4-4), 69-60 this afternoon in Selinsgrove Pa. With the victory the Rangers even their conference record and move into the third spot in the league standings.

Sophomore guard Mike Klinger (Franklin Park, N.J./Rutgers Preparatory School) led the Rangers in scoring with a game-high and season-high 31 points. Klinger was 8-18 from the field and was a perfect 12-12 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Ozan Yucetepe (Bursa, Turkey/Westfield (N.J.)) scored eight points in 13 minutes off the bench for the Rangers in the victory.

The Rangers got the scoring started just 10 seconds into the game on a made free throw from senior Jason Chornyei (Westerly, R.I./Cheshire Academy). Just 30 seconds later sophomore Jason Huelbig (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) added a lay-up giving the Rangers a 3-0 lead. Susquehanna would answer the Ranger start with a 14-3 run over the next 6:30 to take a 14-6 lead with just over 13 minutes left to play in the half. Drew closed out the half on a 24-13 run, behind 10 points from Klinger. The teams entered the half tied, 27-27.

The Rangers continued their hot shooting from the end of the first half, to start the second half. Drew opened on a 19-5 over the first eight minutes. Back-to-back-to-back three-pointers from Yucetepe, junior guard Steve Hydzik (Hillsboro, N.J./Hillsboro) and senior John Ford (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) forced a Susquehanna timeout with the Rangers leading 46-34 and only 12:05 left in the game. After a Klinger three-pointer Drew took a 53-38 lead, the largest of the game.
The Crusaders was crawl as close as six, but the Rangers would close the game by making all eight of their final free throw attempts.

Brandon Hedley and Harley Sellinger each scored 15 points for Susquehanna in the loss. Sellinger recorded a double-double grabbing 19 rebounds for the Crusaders.

Drew returns to Baldwin Gym on Wednesday February 5, as they host Moravian in another Landmark Conference contest. In the first meeting between the two schools, the Greyhounds edged the Rangers 67-66 in Bethlehem, Pa.
