Box Score MADISON, N.J. (Aug. 29, 2014) - The Drew University field hockey team opened up the 2014 season with a 4-2 loss to the visiting Cabrini College Cavaliers on Friday afternoon. Friday's match up marked the first game of the 31
st Annual Field Hockey Fall Festival at Ranger Stadium.

Early in the first half, Cabrini took advantage of a penalty corner just a minute into play. The Cavaliers got on the board first at 1:09 mark. The Ranger defense pulled together quickly and it would serve as the only goal Cabrini would have in the first half.

Bea Cannavale set up senior captain
Melissa Boyd off a corner for the Rangers' first tally of the season, and tied the game at 1-1. Both offenses continued to put pressure on the goalies and with under seven minutes left in the half, Boyd returned the favor and helped set up Cannavale for her first goal of the season, and gave Drew a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

Drew had an edge on Cabrini at halftime with 11 shots to the visitors' six. However, as the second half began the Cavaliers made up for lost opportunities.

Within nine minutes into the second half, Cabrini's Karlie Gruccio crossed a ball in front of the Ranger goal and set up Taylor Mack to tie the game at 2-2. Midway through the second half, Cabrini executed a penalty corner to take the lead 3-2. Under three minutes remaining in the game, the Cavaliers tacked on an insurance goal to take the score to 4-2.

Sarah Stewart held strong with eight saves.

st at 12:00 p.m. to take on the visiting Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen.
